Nick Dragotta
Absolute Batman, East of West

Nick Dragotta is the co-creator and artist behind two of the biggest comics of the last fifteen years. With writer Jonathan Hickman he co-created East of West, the sci-fi western that ran 45 issues from 2013 to 2019, earned Eisner nominations for Best Continuing Series and Best Penciller/Inker, and has sold more than 1.5 million copies.
Since October 2024 he has drawn Absolute Batman with Scott Snyder, and the book has been a phenomenon. Issue #1 was the best-selling comic of 2024 with nearly 400,000 copies, the series has passed six million copies sold, it landed on the New York Times Best Seller list, and it won the 2026 Eisner Award for Best Continuing Series. Dragotta was also nominated for Best Cover Artist that year. DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation announced an Absolute Batman animated series in June 2026, with Dragotta attached as a producer, and he has said publicly he would happily draw 100 issues of the book.
A Cape May, New Jersey native with a BFA in Sequential Art from SCAD, Dragotta broke in as a colorist at DC before landing his first interior art job on Marvel's X-Statix. He went on to draw Fantastic Four and FF with Hickman, co-created America Chavez in the 2011 series Vengeance, co-created the Howtoons books and Image's Ghost Cage, and drew the final arc of Jason Aaron's Once Upon a Time at the End of the World for BOOM!.
