Sam de la Rosa
Venom: Lethal Protector, Spider-Man, Predator

Sam de la Rosa is a Dallas-based inker whose fingerprints are on some of the most collected comics of the 1980s and 1990s. He saw his first published work in Charlton's Fightin' Army back in 1975, then broke into the majors in 1982 with DC's Action Comics #534 before a long run on Firestorm the Nuclear Man that stretched across twenty issues.
Venom collectors know him best. De la Rosa inked all six issues of Venom: Lethal Protector, the 1993 series that gave Eddie Brock his first solo title, and he returned for Venom: Separation Anxiety. Lethal Protector #4 is the key: the first appearance of Scream and the first look at the Life Foundation symbiotes Riot, Agony, Lasher, and Phage, with de la Rosa on both interior inks and the cover. He is also the inker on Dark Horse's Predator #1 from 1989, the very first Predator comic, and on the 1988 Black Panther limited series over Denys Cowan's pencils.
His broader credit list runs deep at both major publishers: a long Web of Spider-Man run over Alex Saviuk, plus Amazing Spider-Man, Spectacular Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, Squadron Supreme, Star Wars, New Warriors, Alpha Flight, and dozens of What If issues, along with Judge Dredd and Strontium Dog covers for Fleetway. He is still working today as a Marvel cover artist, with recent covers including Uncanny Spider-Man, Predator vs. Wolverine, and Venom: Lethal Protector II, and he takes commissions at his table.
